It is fair to say that when a tree is strong its root system is strong. It has been said that trees are the only thing that grows in two directions at once. We think Christians should also grow in two directions at once. In the case of the tree, it grows in height and its trunk grows in diameter as its roots grow down in length. As Christians we should strive to grow spiritually (inwardly) and that growth should reflect outwardly (toward others).
Adam had a wife named Eve. God told Noah to build an ark because a flood was coming. Methuselah was the oldest person in the bible and lived to be 969 years old. Jesus had 12 disciples. These are interesting facts but just memorizing facts doesn’t bring us closer to God. We have designed our Bible studies to help participants learn to do more than memorize. We want you to get into the Word so that the Word can get in you.
Our current Bible Study is titled What Did Jesus Say / What Does It Mean, based on the Book of Matthew. It is designed to help you better understand the things that Jesus spoke and to understand how it applies in your everyday life. In other words, we want to go below the surface and understand the context and meaning of verses, stories, and scenarios. You can find past Bible Study outlines here as well. Prayer changes things! In Philippians 4:6-7, the Apostle Paul points out just a few benefits of prayer. Paul says do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Paul first points out that in every situation we have a choice – we can be anxious and stay in that moment of anxiety, fear, stress and concern or we can choose to do something productive about it.
Paul reminds us that the power of our choice lies in giving God the things that are causing anxiety. We give it to God through prayer, asking God for help and guidance and we do it with a spirit of thanksgiving knowing that he is capable and willing to do more than we an ask or think. As a result of our confidence in God, he grants his peace, a peace that is beyond human understanding and is able to guard your heart and mind through Jesus. We take prayer seriously and would like you to join us by providing a name or names for our prayer list or by praying for names on our prayer list or by doing both.
